Hi everyone! I wanted to share a special festival my sister Vriddhi and I recently celebrated called Bhai Dooj. It’s one of my favorite festivals because it’s all about the bond between a brother and sister. Let me tell you all about it!
What Is Bhai Dooj?
Bhai Dooj is a festival celebrated in India a couple of days after Diwali, the festival of lights. On this day, sisters pray for their brothers’ long life and happiness, and in return, brothers promise to always protect and support their sisters. It’s a festival that brings families together and makes the bond between siblings even stronger. Cool, right?
How We Celebrated Bhai Dooj
This year, Vriddhi and I were super excited about Bhai Dooj. The preparations started in the morning when our mom decorated a small puja thali (a decorative plate) with a diya (oil lamp), rice grains, roli (red powder), and sweets. Vriddhi was in charge of arranging everything, and she did an amazing job. The thali looked so pretty!
When it was time for the ceremony, Vriddhi and I sat together. She applied a tilak (a small mark) of roli on my forehead and then sprinkled some rice grains over it. She prayed for my well-being, and I promised to always look out for her. It was such a sweet moment, and it made me feel really lucky to have her as my sister.
After the tilak ceremony, we exchanged gifts. Vriddhi gave me a cool comic book that I had been wanting for a long time. I gave her a cute hairband set and a chocolate box because I know how much she loves chocolates. Seeing her smile was the best part of the day for me.
Why Bhai Dooj Is Special to Me
Bhai Dooj is not just about rituals or gifts. For me, it’s a day to spend quality time with my sister, Vriddhi. Usually, we’re busy with school, homework, and other activities, but on Bhai Dooj, we get to focus on our bond. It’s a reminder of how much we mean to each other and how important it is to cherish our relationship.
I also like how Bhai Dooj teaches us about love, respect, and family values. In today’s fast-paced world, festivals like these help us slow down and appreciate the people in our lives.
The Best Part of the Day
Do you want to know the best part of Bhai Dooj? It’s the delicious food! Our mom cooked some of our favorite dishes, like puris, paneer curry, and kheer (a sweet rice pudding). Vriddhi and I helped set the table, and we all enjoyed the yummy meal together as a family.
Oh, and how could I forget the games? After lunch, Vriddhi and I played board games. She beat me in Ludo, but I managed to win in Snakes and Ladders. We laughed so much and had a blast.
What I Learned
Every Bhai Dooj teaches me something new. This time, I realized how important it is to show love and care to the people around us. Even small gestures, like giving a gift or spending time together, can make someone feel special. I also learned that festivals are not just about traditions but about creating memories that we will cherish forever. The Best Part of the Day
